Madrid weather reflects the city's location near the geographical center of the Iberian Peninsula at the boundary between the high plateau and foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama. Warm winds from the Atlantic Coast bring hot, dry summer weather while the altitude and nearby mountains plunge temperatures to below freezing in the winter. Summer highs average in the high 80's F (low 30's C) and winter highs are close to 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 C). Winter nights are cold, around 36 F (2 C). Rainfall is limited and most prevalent in the spring and fall. Because temperatures vary so dramatically between summer and winter, it's a good idea to pack for the season. Nevertheless, the weather in Madrid, Spain, is some of the sunniest in Europe.
