Madrid Art Galleries

Madrid art galleries include a multitude of giants from the past in the Museo del Prado, perhaps the ultimate destination for lovers of Spanish art. Visitors able to drag themselves away will be rewarded by the collections in the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, Thyssen-Bornemisza, and Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales. More recent art work can be found in the Museo Reina Sofia where works by Picasso and Dali hang. Works by current artists can be admired and bought by patrons of the more than 150 private art galleries in Madrid. The Plaza de las Selases is a focal point for many art galleries, all within a few blocks. West on Calle Atocha from Plaza Emperador Charles V, there are 6 to 8 galleries within a few blocks of one another.
